Sage Mentoring Moments: Raising Our Daughters

As little girls we often have fantasies of that dream wedding, the white picket fence then the pitter patter of several little feet... but what if it doesn't happen that way? In life things tend to happen out of order. As humans, we learn to adapt. We all make mistakes but it's up to us to grow and move forward. As mothers, SINGLE mothers, we give our daughters the tools they need to hopefully do better. We teach them along the way what it takes to bloom into a successful young woman, we pick them up when they fall and we do our bes to lead by example. A father is a girl's first love and unfortunately in today's world they are also the first to break her heart. This week's Sage Mentoring Moments will discuss ways we can raise happy , healthy daughters into THRIVING ladies that aren't constantly searching for the love they lost or never received in a failed relationship with her father. With the assistance of our guest, Shardae Pennick, we'll go over the importance of having support while we are raising our daughters.

Shardae Pennick, founder of The Mother's Den social group, has been working in the social services field for over 4 years. She graduated from Arcadia University obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Sociology. Being a teen mother and during her struggles through college, she realized that sometimes people need a little more support in order to succeed. She also realized that there was a lack of programs for women such as herself. Her vision for the The Mother's Den is a social group and eventually a non-profit. The program will include dormitory style housing for women who are mothers or pregnant, ages 18-24, and working towards independence. The program will provide the members with life skills and provide emotional support as they continue school, pursue their career goals and resolve the "bumps" that may be a hindrance.
