“And so, I would have to find my way through the grief, learning lessons along the way. I'd stumble, I'd do things that were perfectly normal to me in my mind, but in hindsight were incredibly destructive. And I didn't care.”

You only truly understand grief when you lose someone and realize that you lost a part of yourself. Love is the ultimate paradox. It enables us to become the best version of ourselves while we remain emotionally vulnerable. But how can you ever rationalize grief? You can’t. The best that you can do is to learn to live with it. In his deeply personal memoir, James LaVeck relates his life with his first husband, Bob, who, despite fighting valiantly, lost his life. After a number of years, and with the great struggle of getting back to himself, he fell in love again with his second husband, coincidentally also named Bob, and lost him too. Exuberant in its character, the poised narrative articulates the necessity of coming to terms with an overbearing sense of loss of losing a significant other and finding the strength to rediscover oneself through the overwhelming pain. Through Life After Losses, the author shares a human experience in dealing with life after the fact and, in small measures, making it work. In his honest journey from grief toward recovery, the author shares the struggles and practical advice to healing, and how he made the conscious decision on how to model grieving behavior to his children. It is his hope that, by sharing his experiences, others in similar situations can resonate with and find inspiration in the messages of hope, courage, and faith.
