Mandy Neff, author of the UUA's new "With Justice and Compassion" curriculum for grades 1-3 and 4-6, talks about how she uses age-appropriate stories, activities and meditation to help children understand why they should care about immigration. Her editor, UUA Adult Programs Director Gail Forsyth-Vail, also adds her own perspective.

In the second part, we are joined by Rev. Walt Wieder, minister of the UU congregation in Surprise, Arizona and chair of the 2012 General Assembly Planning Committee. We discuss the opportunities and the challenges presented by our intention to have community partners participate in Justice GA.

*The Journey Toward Phoenix* is a weekly radio blog intended to inform, entertain and inspire those who are attending or may attend Justice GA 2012, and to create a national dialogue about what Unitarian Universalists are doing in their local communities relative to the UUA theme of "Immigration as a Moral Issue".

The host of *The Journey Toward Phoenix* is Rev. Carlton Elliott Smith, one of three ministers serving the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, Virginia. He is a member of both the Resources "Brain Trust" and the Program Development Group for Justice GA 2012.
