Jacqui Knight is heading the Apache Native American Student and Parent Awareness Community in a protest against discrimination in public schools. On November 22 and 23, Jacqui and the group held a protest to bring about awareness of the issue and get their concerns addressed by the Apache school system.
Native American Heritage month is being celebrated across this nation, but in our small towns such as Apache, our Native American youth are dropping out of school, failing in classes, getting involved in criminal activity and running away from home. All of these negative effects stem from the ongoing discriminatory and hateful atmosphere they feel in the public school system. This is a huge problem all across Oklahoma.
