  • On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.
  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.
  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
  • On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide.

On this episode of Real Talk With Ceola J., we welcome Author, speaker, and women's advocate, Ms. Carmen Love to the show. With October being National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we will discuss one of Carmen's phenomenal books, "They Loved with a Closed Fist: When Love Hurts: A True Story of Family Abuse and Survival."  This is going to be a very powerful show that I'm sure many can and will be able to relate to. I can't wait to dig in to this topic, share some statistics with you from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) and bring greater awareness.

NOTE: If you are reading this and currently experiencing or know someone who is experiencing domesic violence, PLEASE call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800.656.HOPE (4673). The National Sexual Assault Hotline was the nation’s first decentralized hotline, connecting those in need with help in their local communities. It’s made up of a network of independent sexual assault service providers, vetted by RAINN, who answer calls to a single, nationwide hotline number. Since it was first created in 1994, the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE and online.rainn.org) has helped more than 2 million people affected by sexual violence. RAINN is the RAPE, ABUSE & INCEST NATIONAL NETWORK.
