When Barack Obama was elected in 2008 the common belief amongst many whites who voted for him that racism was a thing of the past but for persons of color this was the furthest thing from the truth. From the discovery of racist e-mail from Fmr. Virginia Beach Republican Party Chairman David immigrant Manuel Jamines in Los Angeles and Oscar Grant in Oakland, not to mention the ongoing fear and persecution of Middle Eastern/Muslim citizens and backlash against illegal immigration.
