Something Beautiful, Something Grand

Africa is never far from our thoughts.

Each time I pass through London, on my way to Africa for ministry, I do something some people could consider a bit eccentric. I take the underground--The Tube--into London and walk the short distance from the tube station to Westminster Abbey.

Let me hasten to add here that Westminster Abbey is much more like a combination museum and cemetery than it is a church. But, I make my way there none-the-less. My purpose is simple. I pull up a folding chair and sit and contemplate the final resting place of David Livingstone. His "mwili"--body--is resting under the floor of Westminster Abbey.

Engraved on the floor under which he rests is a prayer that David Livingstone prayed. From a contemporary theological basis it isn't the most biblical prayer. But, David Livingstone prayed that God would raise up people to follow him and bring about health, healing, and the gospel to Africa.

Sometimes I just sit there with tears in my eyes and realize that I am an answer to a prayer that a man prayed in 1873. A prayer that has reached down through time and touched and changed my life. I am an answer to prayer!
