Opening Your Eyes to the Blind

October is Meet the Blind Equality Achievement Month. On Oct. 15, noon PT/3 p.m. ET/8 p.m. UK, Purpose Talk Radio host Cindy Freeman will discuss with guests Stacy Fuehrer and Jennifer Wenzel what it means to them to be blind, including how they function and work in a sighted world, what it means to use a guide dog, how a blind person can raise children, and other topics.

Stacy was born blind and attended public school. She was introduced to the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) as a senior in high school and won a state scholarship in 2001. She attended the NFB national convention that summer in Philadelphia. She attended college in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Communication in 2005, getting her first full-time job a year later. Stacy has called several cities home and now resides and works in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with her guide dog.

Jennifer was born blind and was the first blind student to attend public school in Watertown, Wisconsin. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and has worked in blindness rehabilitation for over 20 years. She also has worked as a braille proofreader. She is married and has three sons. Jennifer currently travels between Minnesota and Milwaukee for her job and enjoys many activities including cooking, baking, shopping, and traveling.
