On May 16, 2013 I was invited to a breakfast with the Russian Consulate (Embassy) in Houston, TX. The breakfast was enlightening as the Russian Consulate shared about their cooperative partnerships with over 300 business’ in Houston, TX.

The evening before the event Pam and joked around about the fact that throughout our childhood our teachers, parents, and media convinced us of the conspiracy that the ‘Russians’ were coming.  As young people we were convinced that we would always fear the day that the Russians would invade America.  Now at the age of 50 we can honestly say the Russians never came.

As we look back we realize that the belief that the Russians were coming has been replaced with other fears and conspiracy theories that reflect other people groups from China, the Middle East, Mexico, etc.  We are amazed at the amount of email with fearful messages that paint a ‘conspiracy theory’ that we are all in danger of the invasion or take-over of a group of people.

Even though this type of invasion or take-over could actually happen, it is not a scriptural concept to focus on this as a main event in our day. Our focus is intended to be on two things that should give us far greater faith than fear.

1.      That Jesus is coming – we are commanded to look up as our redemption is drawing nearer. We are also commanded to look toward heaven as we will meet the Lord in the air/clouds.

2.      That the Russians, Chinese, Mexican’s or any other people groups have absolutely no authority to invade us, unless God grants this ability to them.
