Amy Donohue grew up outside Buffalo, New York. After realizing that winter was simply insane, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona, about eleven years ago. She has been a stand-up comedian in Phoenix for over ten years. Then, as a radio DJ, she harnessed the power of Social Media to get fans and followers. Two years ago, she saw a tweet from a woman she met a few months previously, explaining her mother's agreement to be put on the transplant list for her kidney disease. It could take 2 to 6 years to get a kidney, and it wasn't likely she'd live that long. Amy volunteered and turned out to be a perfect match. Their story is incredible in itself. Amy lost her job, found a community on Twitter to support her, and realized what true friendship was. In May 2013, she will be traveling North America to interview other kidney donors in a documentary, called "Social Media Stole My Kidney." Her goal? To show that donors live healthy, normal lives after donating a kidney. She's also created a non-profit to mentor donors and campaign for long-term testing and a national donor registry.
