Amie Hamlin and Lee discuss her organization, the Coalition for Healthy School Food, including how it got started as well as its mission, goals, accomplishments, and plans for the future.  She reveals how she wrote a New York State legislative resolution endorsing healthy plant-based entrees and nutrition education in the state’s schools, as well as how and why that resolution passed unanimously.  Ms. Hamlin talks about the methods her organization employs to promote plant-based nutrition in schools and in students’ homes, the challenges she’s faced, and how her initiative has now spread nationwide.

Amie Hamlin has been the Executive Director of the Coalition for Healthy School Food since its founding in 2004.  In her current position, she wrote a New York State legislative resolution for healthy plant-based entrees and nutrition education in schools which passed unanimously in 2004. The coalition has developed recipes which have been distributed to 25,000 schools nationwide.  She consults with schools to help them get started on a path to healthy change using Coalition for Healthy School Food’s recipes, curriculum, and resources.
