Unfortunately, the guest scheduled for this week cannot appear, so I will handle more news and views. As the previous weekend sees the first debate where Gingrich steps in as the leader in the polls, I would like to dicuss the results of the debate and also look at whether negative ads can really affect the people's votes.

In Congress the back and forth about the extensions of unemployment benefits continues. The GOP as offered a plan linking the extensions to the Keystone pipeline. King Barry has said that he will refuse (but not used the word veto) this linkage. Have the Republicans found a way out of the trap that the progressives thought they set?
