Cynthia (cina) Pelayo grew up in Chicago’s northwest side with superstitious parents. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Columbia College Chicago, a Master of Science in Integrated Marketing Communication from Roosevelt University and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

She considers herself a journalist-writer-folklorist blend working to understand people’s beliefs, especially those in the Hispanic community, pertaining to the superstition, folklore, legend and myth. Her interest in Hispanic folklore stems from her own Puerto Rican background and her former work as a journalist in a predominantly Hispanic community with rich customs, traditions and belief systems.
