Dr. Hoffman and his guest Ms. Amelia Missieledies, MSW, LICSW, DAPA will be discussing domestic violence in the immigrant community. They will highlight the role of culture, environment, perceived gender role, and absence of traditional support system in domestic violence. Ms. Missieledies ran a private practice for 9 years, Multicultural Therapeutic Intervention Service Inc. (MTIS).  She is a certified DV Counselor.  In her practice, she conducted individual, group, and family therapy with adults and children, developing and implement culture sensitive and culture specific treatment and intervention strategies for individuals and families from other cultures.  She conducted training programs on multicultural treatment approaches for interns at St. Elizabeth, Hospital, and provided consultation on multicultural therapeutic interventions to a range of professionals in the community. Special interest areas included women’s issues, trauma related disorders, migration and adaptation issues.  In addition, she is currently a consultant to the Institute for Human Service Delivery, monitoring State funded Domestic Violence programs to insure compliance with funding requirements, and providing developmental monitoring to upcoming grass roots organizations to build capacity and improve outcome and compliance with state and federal requirements.
