Her passion for peaceful ways to resolve conflict, associated with her constant desire to improve the community led her to establish the Western Justice Center, an nonprofit organization in Pasadena, CA, which "envisions a society in which conflicts are transformed into opportunities for learning and growth." Judge Dorothy Nelson has received numerous awards varying from judge of the year (2009), presidential appointments (Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Reagan), to humanitarian prizes.
