Tamara Levine is a long-time adult educator and literacy activist who pioneered workplace literacy and clear language initiatives within the Canadian labour movement.

Following breast cancer treatment and recovery, she retired and wrote But Hope is Longer: Navigating the Country of Breast Cancer. Published by Second Story Press in 2012, it tells the story of her struggle to become captain of her own ship and her efforts to straddle the often conflicting worlds of mainstream and complementary cancer care.
