Edgar "Meshlee" Modesto of the explosive LA Latin funk dance band BUYEPONGO

Buyepongo came together initially as together as friends playing punk and hip hop music in high school. After graduation, co-founder  Edgar Modesto and a few friends  went on a backpacking trip through Belize and Guatemala where they encountered Afro-Caribbean sounds of the region’s Garifuna culture. The band re-coalesced and took the Garifuna music and added LA to funk create a new style of music. They have  shared the stage with bands from a diverse range of styles including Quantic, Ozomatli, Booker T, Sister Nancy, Dead Prez, Cut Chemist, Beatnuts, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings to name a few.  Their new album, Todo Mundo,  is out now.
