My guest today was born and raised in Washington, DC. Growing up in poverty, she turned to music as an escape from the harsh realities of the drugs and violence that those around her easily succmbed to.

At age 11, she was heard singing beautifully and ahead of her time by one of her classmates. Her classmate outed her to her teacher and the other classmates. She was then told she could no longer keep her voice a secret.

From that point on she began singing every where she went. She's sung in various gospel and jazz choirs in school and around the city. At School Without Walls High School, she directed her very own gospel ensemble.

Eventually, Grammy nominated producer & Bad Boy Hit Man Chucky Thompson noticed her. He mentored her on songwriting, recording, and the music business. He invited her to work on projects with acclaimed artists such as Faith Evans, Mya, Lik' Kim, Nick Cannon, Tanya Blount, and Grammy winning songwriter Denise Rich. Surrounded by so many successful artists, she began searching for her own sound and place in the industry.
