As YEAR UP Associate Site Director and National Director of Strategic Program Pilots, respectively, Janelle Viruet and Lisette Nieves share a passion to close the "Opportunity Divide" by providing urban young adults with the skills and support to empower them to reach their potential through higher education and professional careers.

Both NYC natives, Viruet and Nieves boast some impressive credentials. Nieves leads Year Up’s new Million Person Model strategy, which aims to serve 100,000 students per year. Prior to this role, Lisette was the founding Executive Director of Year Up New York, which grew to serve more than 270 young adults per year and became recognized as one of the most impactful NYC youth workforce development programs. She was recently appointed by President Obama to serve as a member of the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics and named the Belle Zeller Distinguished Visiting Professor in Public Policy at the City University of New York at Brooklyn College.

Viruet initially joined Year Up Miami as the Manager of Internships; she previously worked for Year Up NY as the Associate Director of Internships, where she built and managed successful relationships with over 30 Fortune 500 companies.  She currently has a certificate in Career Planning and Development from NYU's School of Continuing and Professional Studies, has earned 31 credits towards a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology, and just won a scholarship to complete a 1 week intensive Developing Leaders training program at Columbia University’s Business School for Executives!
