Dwight Poage graduated from San Diego State University with a B.A. and in 1987 he traveled through Central America, backpacked through the Americas. He began Mayan Families in 2005 to support and empower the Maya people of Lake Atitlan and surrounding areas. The organization has sponsored more than 2,500 students to go to school and operates feeding programs at seven local schools in Guatemala.
