Whirl With Merle

Provincetown, Massachusetts, better known as “P’Town”, is an area located at the tip of Cape Cod.  People come from all over the world to spend some hours, days, or weeks as tourists.  Then there are those that buy a piece of the real estate for a few months and even longer.  If they get to the point of establishing being a part time or full time resident, they earn the title of “Townies.”  

You can always recognize your approach as you view the Pilgrim Monument, the tallest all-granite structure in the United States, named for the Pilgrims who first set the Mayflower on US land. 

The ocean had brought a large population of Portuguese fisherman as well, who still remain. 

What draws the P’Town visit or lifestyle is the scenic land of beaches and sand, the Bay on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other where they meet at the tip better known as the West End.   The beauty and sereneness have first ushered in artists, a gay community, entrainment, restaurants and tourist attractions of cruises and dune tours. 

Income derived from the tremendous amounts of tourists needing accommodations, food and the entrainment pleasures that basically lasted a season from April to October, the highest being the summer months.  How are the ‘Townies” functioning through the COVID virus?
