In our continuing series in coordination with Citizens Commission on Human Rights, tonight we are pleased to have Dr. Jeffrey A. Schaler as our guest to discuss the myth of mental illness.

Jeffrey A. Schaler, PhD, a psychologist in Maryland, has written extensively on addiction and social policy as well as having taught thousands of undergraduate and graduate students about the myth of mental illness over the past 22 years at American University in Washington, D.C., Johns Hopkins University, and community colleges in Maryland and Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia. He is a well known and popular international speaker. A close friend and colleague for many years of the late professor emeritus of psychiatry Thomas Szasz, Professor Schaler is currently working on his sixth and seventh books, both focused on why behavior can never be a disease. His book entitled Addiction Is a Choice was the centerpiece of a John Stossel ABC News 20/20 special and his book entitled Peter Singer Under: The Moral Iconoclast Faces His Critics won the American Library Association book of the year in Philosophy in 2010. He has three granddaughters and he lives with "Scout," his six month old German Shepherd, in Howard County, Maryland. His website is at www.schaler.net .
