In this episode of Bringing Voices To Power I talk with Laurie McCaulley, President of the Huntsville City Board of Education. Laurie McCaulley is a native of the City of Huntsville, a product of Huntsville City Schools and a 1979 graduate of Johnson High School. She is the proud mother of four children. She was first elected to the Huntsville City Board of Education as the school board member for District 1 in 2008, and was reelected in 2012. As the result of the 2008 election, Laurie became the first African American woman ever elected to ta munipcipal office in the City of Huntsville. She has a Bachelor of Arts (Religion), an Associate's degree in Applied Science (Paralegal) and an Associate of Arts (Pastroal Ministry). Laurie was selected as an Alabama All-State School Board Member. It is the highest honor a local school board member can achieve. Also, she has achieved the status of Alabama Association of School Boards Master's level board member for three consecutive years. Laurie is a small business owner.
