Kenny Wray is no rookie; the singer/songwriter was able to experience the exuberant demands of a recording artist in today's turbulent music industry when hwwe toured with multi-platinum rap superstar Missy Elliot and his sister Nicole Wray back in '98. Kenny sat back and absorbed it all, now he is able to apply all that he has learned to his upcoming album. "All of the things that people breaking into the industry would normally read a book about, I just seen it hands on," Kenny says. Music fans across the
world may not know Kenny Wray's name, but they sure know his voice. Although he wasn't officially credited for his performance, the Virginia native sang the hook on Jay-Z's "All I Need", a track off of the rapper's multi-platinum "Blueprint" album. Kenny Wray incorporates that old southern soul into all that he does and credits his hometown's slower way of life with the inspiration for his introspective lyrics. At the tender age of 15, Kenny began to develop his writing ability, inspired by the likes of Stevie Wonder and Donnie Hathaway. Now Kenny Wray is ready to give the people something of his own. "I hope my album really encourages the world," Kenny says, "If a person is having problems they can put on one of my records and hopefully it can get them through it," he adds. Virginia has produced some of hip-hop and R&B's most successful artist; everyone from Pharrell and the Neptunes, to Timbaland and Missy Elliot got their start in VA. And with Kenny Wray next up to bat his self-titled LP promises to be an eclectic mix of soulful tunes aimed to inspire everyone from his grandmother to young men and women who live the nightlife.
