What are the Rules and how do we Change Them?

Moments after the verdict of George Zimmerman was announced, Dwayne Wade tweeted, "How do I explain this to my boys?"

As we Americans continue to heal from the Trayvon Martin case, we as African Americans have to continue to live by "the rules". Where can we go? Who can we date? Where can we shop? Where can our children go and just be kids? What are our curfews?

You may think these questions are silly, but are they? I have been in meetings where these questions people have legitimately asked and have been answered. These are the situations we are required to address in our homes or they will be dealt with not on our terms. 

Do you believe that your kids should deal with these issues on their own or should you address it? How early do you address? At what age?
