Interview with Sydney Schiff, freelance choreographer/dancer

Sydney Schiff, a freelance choreographer and dancer in the New York City area, graduated from Princeton University with a Major in History of Science and a Certificate in the Program in Dance.  In addition to showing her own work as Artistic Director of Sydney Schiff Dance Project | Perpetual Metamorphosis, she apprentices for Zvi Gotheiner and has performed with Patricia Hoffbauer, Pedro Jimenez, The Construction Co., Emily Faulkner and the Israeli Dance Institute.  She recently choreographed and performed in a world premier production of the Pushkin/Prokofiev Eugene Onegin with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Princeton University Glee Club and dancers from the Princeton Ballroom Dance Club, which was covered in the New York Times.  She is currently choreographing, co-directing and performing in a new play written by composer and Jewish Theological Seminary rabbinical candidate Bronwen Mullin and co-directed by Sarah Lawrence MFA candidate Jesse Freedman as a member of the NYC-based theater company Meta-Phys Ed.  CHALOM: A Dream Opera, will premier this August 10-26 in the 16th Annual New York International Fringe Festival.  Having previously choreographed and produced an evening-length work, Context Preconstructed, which explores the relationship between Judaism, concert modern dance and the female dancing body, it is with great pleasure that she continues to pursue text-based work with Jewish artists in New York.
