A native of Alexandria, Virginia, Louis Yuhasz was the child of a morbidly obese parent - affectionately named “Big Louie.” Louis learned to ignore the stares and comments made about his father and as a self-proclaimed “fat kid,” he tackled his own weight through exercise and diet as a teenager. In contrast, the elder Louis weighed nearly 550 pounds at the time of his death in January of 2001.
Bearing witness to his father’s day-to-day struggles, Louis was quickly motivated to not only embrace a healthy lifestyle, but advocate for early education to combat childhood obesity. Louis founded Louie’s Kids – his very personal crusade to educate as many of the 25 million children suffering from childhood obesity as possible.
An esteemed member of the Charleston community, Louis devotes an enormous amount of time, energy and personal resources to Louie’s Kids among other local non-profits.Louis is a passionate spokesperson, continually educating audiences about the changes every family can make to combat childhood obesity in their own homes. A graduate with an advanced standing Culinary degree from Johnson & Wales University and 20+ years as a very successful hospitality leader, trainer and corporate trainer and recruiter. Louis is embracing the Slow Food movement and explaining the simple power of the family dinner table, to preparing healthy and low fat recipes children love, Louis is equal parts entertaining and informative.
