UK Gov to Large IT/ERP Vendors "The Party's Over" - The Colin Cram Interview

Cabinet Office minister, Francis Maude, speaking at a meeting attended by 31 major government suppliers including BT, Hewlett Packard, IBM and CapGemini, claimed that large-scale bespoke IT systems -- many of which have gone significantly over budget in the past -- would henceforth be replaced by less expensive and "off the shelf" offerings. In this replay of an interview from the PI Inquisitive Eye TV Channel, I talk with 30 year public sector veteran and author of the seminal paper "Towards Tesco - improving public sector procurement" Colin Cram regarding the early December announcement by the UK Government that the days of over-arching, over-budget automation initiatives that have historically cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollar while failing to deliver the promised savings is over. Does this spell the end for large IT/ERP vendors, as the leaner and more technologically advanced Software-as-a-Service "SaaS" vendors move up the chain in terms of being viable alternative?
