Discussion with MD Youth Advocate Jabrerira Handy

Maryland resident Jabreira Handy was charged as an adult at the age of 16. Her 11 month stay in an adult jail caused extreme emotional and psychological distress. Although eventually taking a plea bargain and given a lesser sentence to be served in a juvenile facility, Jabreira was forced to endure months of degrading and humiliating experiences and received no counseling or healthcare during her stay.
