How Do You Feel about The Help?
The Book and Movie Evoke Strong Feelings – Good and Bad - among Black Women

Join Hosts Byllye and Ngina with Special Guest,
A.J. Verdelle, Author of The Good Negress,on First Wednesdays, Wednesday, September 14,
2 p.m. EST, on BlogTalkRadio

Toni Morrison declared A.J. Verdelle's debut novel, The Good Negress, as "truly extraordinary" because it is consistently adsorbing and beautifully detailed. On September 14, at 2 p.m. EST, A.J. will join First Wednesday Hosts Byllye Y. Avery and Ngnia Lythcott on BlogTalkRadio, to discussThe Help – book and movie.

There is no question that the book and movie present us with a touching drama, not only because of the issues it explores, but the feelings it evokes among Black women.

Many Black women have put forth the question, “How can a book written by a White woman and a movie helmed by White directors/producers bring the true experiences of these Black characters to the screen?” While others tell us not to get caught up in the societal inequalities but embrace the poignant and warm tale of friendship.

What feelings did the book and movie evoke in you? Let’s talk about it!

Call us at 646-381-4662 beginning at 2 p.m. EST on Wednesday, September 14, or email your questions prior to the show to asktheexpert@BlackWomensHealth.ORG.
