Will the Israeli Military be Held Accountable for the Killing of Rachel Corrie?

Rachel Corrie, an American student and human rights activist from Olympia, Washington was crushed to death in 2003 by an Israeli army bulldozer in the Gaza Strip while nonviolently trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian family's home. Despite high-level Israeli promises for a "thorough, credible, and transparent" investigation into Corrie's death, nobody has been held accountable and the Corrie family has yet to receive a credible explanation.

At the advice of the US government, the Corrie family filed a civil suit agiasnt the Israel Ministry of Defense in Haifa District Court. This Thursday the case, which has been ongoing since March of 2010, will feature the testimony of the driver of the bulldozer which killed Corrie.

The Corries travel frequently to the region and are recipients of the Human Rights Advocate of the Year Award from Seattle University's Human Rights Network, as well as numerous other awards.

Hussein Abu Hussein is a human rights lawyer representing the Corrie family in their civil lawsuit in Israel. He has handled numerous cases relating to land, discrimination, political prisoners, and other issues affecting Palestinians in Israel and in the Occupied Territories. He is Chair of Ittijah, Union of Arab Community Based Organizations in Israel.
