Kalyn Risker will facilitate a dialog with guest presenter Janis Gonder Allen which will explore some of the historical and current challenges of the backlog of untested forensic rape kits. Specifically examining the backlog in Detroit, Michigan a city with a population of 706,640 people of which 576,298 are African Americans. Over 25 years over 11,000 rape victims had forensic evidence collected through rape kits, and yet the kits were not analyzed. Additionally, they will discuss the challenges and interventions regarding the backlog in the African American community.
