NEW TECHNIQUES SHOW
Marlaine Verhelst from the Netherlands joins us today to share her over 40 years of clay sculpting knowledge.
We talk about working with porcelain, paper mache and air dry clays; the different benefits and down side of each; and how to handle and sculpt with them.
Then we look at the contruction process of building a three-dimensional art doll.
If you are not familiar with Marlaine's figures then prepare to be amazed! They are beyond your imagination. Not only unique but seem to come to life when you see them, which Marlaine believes they all have their own personalities and I am sure with your first look so will you.
She handcrafts them completely from their faces to their very detailed body parts. Her hands alone are a work of art! We all know how hard hands can be. Her textile knowledge allows her to create exquisite outfits for her dolls.
She is part of the National Institute of American Doll Makers also and is sharing her passion of Dutch Doll art history everyday.
