Dr.Rose -TEACHER TALK, TALK, TALK

In his book TEACHER TALK, (you can only get it through the Haberman Foundation.org) gives actual things teachers have said to students. It ain't pretty and is an eye-awakening exercise  in what teachers say that kill the motivation and spirit of students. I will be reading and discussing some of these as well as talking more about what he believes a Star Teacher should or could be. In my talking to and reading Star Teacher I had uneasily felt that maybe he was training teachers (after all he developed the TEACHER CORPS) to be successful in a dysfunctional system. That bothered me. However, in TEACHER TALK I saw the man deeply disturbed and concerned about the very STRUCTURE of schools that I believed caused even good teachers to work with restraints that destroyed their freedom to think, be creative, and to help their students developed all their abilities while learning to be responsible within any community. The newest MANDATE to teach their students without lecturing (talking to them) all day, but rather encourage them to challenge and question what they're learning. to be more free to think for themselves and be creative I do NOT believe will be successful. i will explain why and what might be done.
