Rob left a blossoming Broadway career in 1995 when he heard GOD’s call to serve as a missionary in Tokyo, Japan. Called the “Mount Everest” of missionary work, Rob at first planned to stay only one or two years. However, he found the missionary work so exciting that he stayed in Japan serving GOD for 8 years. He was not only a ministry intern, but also the music director for the church – building a choir which he directed, and producing and performing in “Broadway-style” shows and Christian concerts at the church in Shibuya. He met and married Masayo Shinya, and has been married now for 23 years, with three children. During his stay in Japan, he witnessed the growth of the Tokyo Church of Christ from a membership of about 150 members to over 1200 members. The average attendance on what became three services every Sunday was well over 2200. Tokyo Church of Christ became the largest Christian church in the history of Japan. Many have asked Rob if he regrets leaving a career on Broadway to go to Japan to serve GOD. Rob is resolute in his reply, “Not a single regret. It was an incredible experience that I will treasure forever.”
