Nutrition and the Mind/Body Approach to Healing

Dr. John Mark received his medical degree from the University of Kansas and completed a residency in pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Hospital, University of Missouri, Kansas City. He continued his training in pediatric pulmonary medicine during his fellowship at the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. Dr Mark, in 1999, went to the University of Arizona to complete the first fellowship in Pediatric Integrative Medicine funded by the National Institute of Health. He now is on the faculty at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford since July, 2005. Dr. Mark has been utilizing different complementary and alternative health care practices in his patients with chronic pulmonary illnesses such asthma and cystic fibrosis. He is interested in nutrition and the mind/body approach to healing, trying to minimize medication and emphasizes such things as exercise.

He frequently speaks on the topics of using integrative medicine in respiratory disorders and the use of herbal remedies in patient with chronic pulmonary problems. Since joining the faculty at Stanford, Dr. Mark has started an exercise program for patients with cystic fibrosis. He is the Pediatric Fellowship Program Director for the Pulmonary Division, Associate Director for the pediatric residency program and the Medical Director for the Case Management Departments as well as the new program for Complex Care Coordination at Packard Children’s Hospital, Stanford University.
