Black gentrification is a thing. Tonight, SimplyNay will have an uncomfortable discussion about the dynamics between Black Natives vs. Black Gentrifiers. It is true that most Black gentrifiers do not do so with the intent to displace other Black people. It is true that Black gentrifiers are often forced from their homes for education, greater economic opportunity and/or safety. It is also true that their existence contributes to the displacement of other Black people who are native to that city. This is especially true for cities like New York, New Orleans, Atlanta and Washington, D.C.  While this may not be easy to discuss it is imperative. There is no other better time to talk about this than Black Future Month. Let's discuss how we can navigate the realities of this phenomenon. Let's address the often impact of unintentional erasure of Black Natives. We welcome input from Black natives and gentrifiers alike. Do you disagree on the existence of Black gentrifiers? Do you think that Black gentrification can be helpful or harmful to marginalized communities? Do you think the increase in gentrification has an adverse impact on preserving local cultures? We will discuss this and more tonight. Call (646)787-8623 to let us know #whereustand
