Patty J. Grant is a licensed social worker and a certified substance abuse counselor who has worked in the field of substance abuse/mental health for the last 18 years. She is an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians where she has worked primarily with Native Americans from many different tribes in Oklahoma and in Cherokee, NC.

Tonight, she will address Historical Trauma and unresolved grief issues among native people. With Patty’s powerful support, understanding and guidance, the Cherokee Healing and Wellness Coalition is now collaborating with their brothers and sisters of the United Keetoowah Band and Western Band of Cherokees to unite forces once again with their Eastern Band to make the  1,000+mile trek to retrace the 175 year old journey back down “The Trail of Tears”.

Between May 19 – 26, this group will band together to travel from Oklahoma back to the original homelands in Cherokee, NC in a trek they are calling, “The Journey to Forgiveness and Healing”.

This historic journey will offer participants the opportunity to openly address issues that have affected their lives personally, professionally, spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally while giving participants an opportunity to release emotions and express feelings of how they perceive the Trail of Tears affected Cherokees as a people.  The group will be stopping along the way where the Cherokee’s camp to offer healing ceremonies for attendees.
