Thomas Jefferson and Deism

Some members of America’s religious right would have us believe that Thomas Jefferson was a Bible-thumping evangelist on a mission to create religious schools, to convert Native Americans into Christians, and to establish a Christian nation.  They argue that Jefferson’s famous “wall of separation” letter written in 1802 to the Danbury Baptist Association was simply to stop government from encroaching on religion and had nothing to do with a Christian-run government.

Are the Christian nationalists right?

Jayson, the Deputy Director of the World Union of Deists, will explore what Jefferson really said about religion.  For instance, Jefferson did not believe in “the Holy Trinity” and considered parts of the Bible to be nonsense.  Jefferson was theologically a Deist who drew upon Christian morals, we will learn.
