Melinda Rae Interviews Lorrie Brown

Lorrie Brown is a native resident of Ventura County.  She received an Associate’s degree in Bilingual Cross Cultural Studies, a Bachelor’s in Communication and a Masters in Public Policy & Administration.  Her current work is in Community Development and she has been in this industry for the past five years. 

Lorrie has raised three teenage boys and put herself through college, working full-time. Raising her boys is her most important accomplishment.  She believes has raised her boys to treat people fairly and to treat everyone equally; especially their female counterparts.  Lorrie states, “They are sensitive and thoughtful.”  Being a single mother was difficult and she appreciates the young men they are today.  Lorrie has a passion for public service. She is proud of the work she does that supported affordable housing projects and helped revitalize the city’s economic base; whereby she facilitated the implementation of the redevelopment programs.

Lorrie was appointed to the City of Ventura’s Parking Advisory Committee and remains an active leader in her respective community, volunteering with countless non-profit organizations.  She has worked for agencies such as: California Children’s Services, Ventura County Healthcare Agency’s Tobacco Education & Prevention Coalition and the Boys & Girls Club.  She has served as Board member to CAUSE and as committee member for Pacific Oaks Federal Credit Union. 

In her spare time she enjoys swimming, singing karaoke, reading biographies, writing essays and researching policy.  As a lead soloist she performs at banquets and festivals.  Most recently, she sang the National Anthem for the PCRA Rodeo at the Ventura County Fair.
