Re-Awakening of Racial Hatred in the USA

Dylann Storm Roof, 21,was arrested Thursday morning in Shelby,North Carolina for killing nine people at a church in Charleston, South Carolina.  The gunman walked into the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church,one of the nation’s oldest Black American congregations dating back to1891, after 8 p.m., and the first call to police came shortly after 9 p.m. The gunman, from the Columbia, S.C., traveled to Charleston, S.C., sat down with parishioners in a prayer meeting for nearly an hour, and then opened fire. 

Dylann Storm Roof is white and the nine slain people are black; among the dead was  South Carolina State Senator  (Rev.)  Clementa C. Pinckney, pastor of the church.  The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, the F.B.I., and the United States Attorney’s Office for South Carolina opened a hate crime investigation into the shooting. The gunman was quoted as saying, “I have to do it; you rape our women and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go.”

.A survivor of the shooting reported that the gunman asked for the pastor,sat next to Senator  Pinckney during the Bible study,During the shooting, Dylann Storm Roof reloaded his gun five times. J. Todd Rutherford, the minority leader of the State House of Representatives, confirmed that Senator  Pinckney’s sister was also among those killed.
