Natural disasters, like Hurricane Sandy, have an impact that go far beyond the destruction of our homes, our cars, and our personal treasures. Even though most people will heed the warnings, leave coastal areas, and not be physically harmed by the raging seas and overflowing river banks, an unsettled feeling remains. As we wait for these storms to pass and are grateful for our lives, deep down inside, many who live in coastal or flood prone regions realize that their stuff probably won’t be ok. That many of their “treasures” will be water-logged or washed away by the time they get to them. Making sense out of these kinds of events can be tough. Some will ask “Why did this happen to me?” Some will debate whether these storms are occurring because we’re destroying the atmosphere. Others will wonder if it’s God’s way of punishing us for our preoccupation with pleasure, and the abandonment of His Commandments. Today, as we prepare to elect a new president, we invite you to join us in a conversation about how to find an indestructible shelter and an unshakable faith that will protect you when the storms come into your life.
