Everybody remembers watching the replays of the brawl that later become known as the "Malice at the Palace" as Metta World Peace (the artist formerly known as Ron Artest) jumped into the stands after a fan threw water on him.

The unspoken narrative that has resulted from that fight has been an increasing penchant for media & fans to stereotype athletes (black athletes in particular) as thugs & criminals.

Dr. David J Leonard joins Game Changers Live to discuss his book "After Artest: The NBA and the Assault on Blackness", which explores how the NBA look to govern the behavior of their black players after the Palace brawl.

Dr. Leonard is Associate Professor of Critical Culture, Gender, and Race Studies at Washington State University and the author of Screens Fade to Black: Contemporary African American Cinema. He is also the coeditor (with C. Richard King) of Commodified and Criminalized: New Racism and African Americans in Contemporary Sports and of Visual Economies of/in Motion: Sport and Film.

GCL hosts will also discuss & debate the Miami Heat's chances to make it past the 2nd round now that they are down to the Big 2 and the Heatles. Is San Antonio a team that will ever get respect?

We cover the NBA & more on today's episode of Game Changers Live!
