ENVISION THIS: A successful musician who is also a visionary philosopher and cultural ambassador.

Makana’s protest song, We Are The Many, is a succinct, penetrating socioeconomic commentary on corporate corruption in banking and governance. He performed the song at an APEC Summit gala, which was attended President Obama and a slew of world leaders. Born and raised in Hawai’i, Makana is an internationally acclaimed Slack Key guitarist, singer, composer, philosopher, activist and one of Hawaii’s cultural ambassadors to the world.

We will explore Makana's refreshing philosophical insights, highlighted at mindmints.com, which include: “There is no path. There is only arrival,” “Suffering is rooted in the belief that Life, or another, or oneself, should somehow be different than it is. As long as you see yourself as a victim, your loved ones as victims, even the Earth as a victim, you create dissonance between Life and your view of Life.”

Makana donates a large percentage of his performances to community oriented causes, including cultural education, school visits, environmental campaigns, social awareness issues, and fundraisers for those in need of community support. He is the founder of I Ho'ili Kamali'i, a not-for-profit movement that brings culturally relevant music, dance, poetry and art performances into schools.

Makana’s music transcends category and trend by integrating elements of folk, rock, ethnic, classical, bluegrass, jazz, traditional, ambient, electronic and Hawaiian slack key in gentle to commanding arrangements.

Amazingly, Makana has achieved all of this success with fan support instead of major label support. Makana is releasing his first album collaboration with a multi-platinum producer (Ron Nevison/ The Who, Led Zeppelin, Heart), this Summer, funding it through a Kickstarter campaign.
