Trevahr and Xana interview Justin Penoyer. Justin is a holistic family care physician and integrative Medical Herbalist who specializes in the application of Functional medical testing, Medical Nutrition Therapy, and Chinese herbs in preventative care and the treatment of chronic disease. Justin was raised on a small farm in rural Illinois, where he developed a deep respect and appreciation for Nature, simple living, and natural medicines. In addition to practicing Chinese medicine, Justin is a medical anthropologist with degrees in Philosophy, History, Horticulture, and Traditional Arabic Medicine. He has spent the last decade studying the practices of our longest lived cultures as well as the implementation of medical care throughout history in order to identify simply what has worked, and what hasn’t. The evidence overwhelmingly concludes that the foundation of health involves eating consistently, not too much, mostly vegetables, and meditation in some form. Natural medicines, food, and lifestyle modifications are to be used whenever possible in the treatment and prevention of disease; acute injury and medical emergencies are best managed with hospital care and pharmaceutical intervention. Justin brings this pragmatic background into his practice, where he utilizes advanced clinical lab testing, Chinese herbal medicines, and nutraceutical therapy to first identify, and then address, the chronic stress, inflammation, and nutrient deficiencies that produce most modern diseases. The goal in every case is to work with the patient to reach a solution that is safe, practical, effective, and if possible, natural.
