In 2009 Wood became involved with the TEA Party movement through a special Glenn Beck show in March 2009. Shortly after, he was one of the instrumental planners of the first TEA Party held on April 15, 2009 in Dothan, AL and found himself leader of the movement in the area. He was elected the first Chairman of the 912 Dothan Project, which later changed its name to the “Wiregrass Patriots.” He stepped down from that position in 2009, handing the reigns over to fellow board member Don Odom, but continues serving on the board as their liaison coordinator and historian/constitutionalist. He also acts as co-host several days a week on a local call-in radio show, “City on a Hill” broadcast on 1450 AM Dothan.
