Special guest Dan Jonas, MD, MPH, Associate director of the Center for Evidence Based Medicine at the Shep Center of the University of North Carolina will enlighten listeners about risk communication in Family Medicine, Primary Care and General Internal Medicine.

How do clinical decision makers, including patients understand risks?  Do the medical literature and  the media increase or decrease the ability to understand and share information about risks?  How do clinicians communicate about benefits and harms of tests and therapies?

What ethical principles such as autonomy and beneficence impact patients and physicians when considering and clarifying benefits and harms? 

What biases do physicians and patients have to be aware of when considering clinical information and situations before making decisions?  What communication strategies may help patients and their physicians overcome flawed information when making clinical decisions?
