Let the Poet Speak: National Poet Shawn Welcome

Shawn Welcomeis a nationally known performance poet, blessed with a gift to encourage, inspire, educate, and motivate. Shawn has more than 10 years’ public performing experience, which includes drama and acting. He has ministered to various churches across the Central Florida area and has also spoken in the corporate arena for companies, such as Nike, Johnson & Johnson, Hewitt Associates, Wycliffe Bible Translators, and much more.

Shawn currently hosts “Di-verse Word,” at Dandelion Communitea Cafe, a weekly open mic, held near downtown Orlando, Florida. Shawn’s goal is to use his gift with words as a light in a dark decadent world, thirsty for hope and hungry for change. He is married to his beautiful wife, Jannah, and is the father of two children.

Today, along with performance poetry, Shawn Welcome is a student counselor at Oak Ridge and Jones High School for a non-profit organization called POPS which stands for Professional Opportunities Program for Students. Their mission is to prepare high school aged young people for college and career through a series of monthly workshops, a college tour, and summer internships!
