Today’s world can be a tough place for African American young men. Police brutality, gang violence and school failure are just a few of the many pressures preventing our young boys from flourishing into the men they were destined to become. Often it’s difficult for young men to receive appropriate advice that will lead to successful lives. This episode will explore the trends among younger men to be called gangsters/thugs and discuss the importance of adult men functioning as role models. Poet, Devin T. Robinson and Houston pediatrician, Dean Cannon, MD, join Dr. Jeri for this very HOT TEEN TOPIC. Devin T. Robinson, AKA Egypt is a nationally known HIV activist. EGYPT is the creator of the one-man stage play entitled, “God, Me… HIV?” He has appeared on NBC, MTV and National Public Radio and was featured in SEVENTEEN Magazine. Dr. Dean Cannon has worked with troubled youth for more than 10 years as the former medical director of youth in foster care in Northeast Florida. He is currently providing Pediatric medical care in Houston, Texas. Join in the conversation as we discuss the challenges young men face in today’s culture. Dangerous Dudes & GentleMEN will be a teen-friendly discussion. Parents are welcomed to join this discussion. Let your voice be heard by dialing (347) 637-3748.
