GUT FEELINGS

The medical model often ignores the physical effects of stress, fear, anger, and hatred.  Most of our medical professionals do not consider that these negative emotions are deeply connected to the physiological condition of a patient. The existing psycho-neuro-immunology research shows something different. Science has demonstrated that stress and anxiety cause physical harm to the gastrointestinal tracts of the patients. In relation to Irritable Bowl Syndrome, neither a majority of practitioners nor their patients understand how such negative emotions routinely damage the physical body.  Often times, we control IBS symptoms with medication and without treating the underlying cause.  Negative emotions and stress cause irritation or inflammation inside the intestines that make it literally fall apart. This "leaky gut" and inflammation lead to significant dysfunction, which then lead to a perpetual cycle of disease and pain.

Dr. Katiraei founded the Loma Linda University Wholistic Medicine Clinic, for which he is still the Medical Director.  He also leads the LifeSpan Medicine Healthy Kids and Irritable Bowel Syndrome programs, where he provides integrative services to patients all over California and across the country.

Dr. Katiraei is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Loma Linda University School of Medicine.  He completed his fellowship in integrative medicine under the direction of Dr. Andrew Weil at the University of Arizona.
